Properties Department
PROPERTIES INTERNSHIP

Work with resident prop designers and artisans on a variety of projects including furniture construction and finishing, welding, reupholstering and soft goods, crafts, painting, paper goods, stock organization and research. Portfolio-building opportunities to design Apprentice/Intern Company productions throughout the season.

From Jessie Combest, properties intern:

I’ve learned an amazing amount working in the props shop at Actors Theatre. Everyone on staff is helpful and willing to teach and help with anything. Working in props world is harder because of the amount of things one has to be able to do. Being a props artisan requires knowledge of anything from carpentry to graphic design to upholstery work. I was able to do a lot of things that I was never able to do (whether it be because of budget or space). It really helps to work in an environment that helps you take what you know and develop it even further, and the props department did that for me. During the season I helped out the most with a number of upholstery projects. Before, I had done very little with upholstery. I have a lot more to add to my portfolio, I was able to work on at least one project in every show that was produced during the season.
